After recording over 30 hours of interviews, speaking to dozens of coaches, athletes, and officials, and digesting hundreds of articles and books on the topic, author Jim Rutter presents his thoughts on doping in Olympic and professional sports within the context of Pat's narrative.
For fans of sport, sports history, and especially fans of weightlifting, The Sport Is Steroids is a must-read. The captivating story provides never-before-told insights, stories, and perspectives of an elite athlete seeking to fulfill elite ambitions.

The Story
From 2009 to 2015, Pat Mendes competed in weightlifting, first for the USA then for Brazil. He won three national titles, lifted in two Pan Am Games and two World Championships. Read the story of his attempt to achieve at the same level of the state-sponsored doping nations.
This was a fantastic and necessary narrative. As and athlete and a fan of weightlifting, I feel that it's important that these stories become unearthed. Thanks to Pat, Taylor, and others for sharing their story, and thank you to Jim for putting them together so thoughtfully.
